Automation works, because a machine or computer programme can do your job better and cheaper than you can. Retraining to do something else won’t help either, because computers are learning those skills faster than we can. Soon, most of us will not only be unemployed, we will all be unemployable. If we don’t change the way our economy currently works i.e. expecting people to work to get money, we soon won’t have an economy at all. We need to implement a UBI now, before it’s too late.
